Bible Verses for Anxiety

When your thoughts race and your chest tightens, God's Word offers a steadier place to stand. These verses invite the anxious heart to trade fear for the peace only he can give.

Verse 1

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Anxiety loses its grip when it becomes a specific prayer. Naming what troubles you invites God's peace to stand guard over your thoughts.

Verse 2

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

You were never meant to carry the weight alone. God is not annoyed by your worry — he invites it because he genuinely cares.

Verse 3

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34

Jesus gives you permission to stay in today. Tomorrow's grace has not arrived yet because tomorrow's trouble has not either.

Verse 4

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

God does not just tell you to be brave — he promises to be present, to strengthen, and to hold you up himself.

Verse 5

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalm 94:19

God meets anxious hearts with real comfort. His nearness is not a distraction from anxiety; it is the answer to it.

Verse 6

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

The peace Jesus gives does not depend on circumstances. It is his own peace, offered directly to your troubled heart.

Verse 7

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Psalm 55:22

When worry threatens to topple you, God becomes your foundation. He steadies what anxiety tries to shake loose.

Verse 8

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29

Jesus does not shame the anxious. He offers rest — a gentle exchange of your heavy load for his light one.

Verse 9

Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.
Proverbs 12:25

Words matter. Speak Scripture, kindness, and truth over yourself when anxiety tries to define your day.

Verse 10

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4

The first step is the smallest one — turning toward God. He answers seekers, not just the strong.

Verse 11

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7

Anxiety is not who you are. The Spirit within you is stronger than the fear pressing against you.

Verse 12

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
Psalm 46:1-2

Even if everything solid seems to shift, God does not. He is the refuge anxiety cannot reach you inside of.

How to pray Scripture when you're anxious

  • Breathe and read slowly. Anxiety races; Scripture invites you to slow down. One verse, read three times, is enough.
  • Name what worries you. Say it aloud to God. Vague fear shrinks when it becomes a specific prayer.
  • Turn the verse into a prayer. Reword it: "Lord, be my refuge today. Guard my mind with your peace."
  • Repeat it during the day. Keep one phrase on your lock screen or notebook and return to it whenever fear rises.
  • End with thanks. Gratitude reroutes anxious thoughts toward the God who is already at work.
